The Truth About ‘Lord Vader (2025)’ – The Dream That Hasn’t Come True
Currently, ‘Lord Vader (2025)’ is not an official movie announced by Lucasfilm or Disney. While the plot that has been spread with the participation of Hayden Christensen in the title role — deeply embodying the journey of Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader — is intriguing and has great potential, there is no announcement confirming that this project is in production or will be released in 2025.
What Is True
Hayden Christensen did indeed return as Anakin/Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (2022), leaving a strong impression with the flashbacks as well as the internal confrontation between the two personalities Anakin and Vader.
He could also appear in future Star Wars projects, including the Ahsoka sequel and the series between Episode III and IV.
Lucasfilm is currently developing several new films, such as:
Dave Filoni’s film (connecting the Mandalorian/Ahsoka series),
James Mangold’s film (about the origins of the Force and the ancient Jedi),
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film (set after The Rise of Skywalker),
However, no Darth Vader solo film has been confirmed as of June 2025.
A Promising, But Still Controversial Idea
Although Lord Vader (2025) is just a fan-made idea, it has still created a heated discussion in the Star Wars community — and also attracted some criticism and concerns from fans:
“Too much re-use of old characters”
Some fans think Lucasfilm is relying too much on old characters like Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, and Palpatine. Continuing to explore Vader could erode the character’s image, losing the mystery inherent in the original trilogy.
“Vader is a symbol. Not every symbol needs to be explained from beginning to end.” — A comment on Reddit.
“It’s already painful enough”
Many fans love the tragedy in the character of Vader, but think that constantly exploring Anakin’s inner suffering could make the story repetitive, dark, and lacking innovation.
“We’ve seen Anakin suffer in Episode III, Clone Wars, Rebels, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. What else is there to explore?”
“Why not make a movie about a new character?”
A large part of the fan community wants Lucasfilm to devote resources to developing new stories in the Star Wars universe, especially the Jedi who survived Order 66, the ancient Sith, or storylines that have never been mentioned.
“There’s so much left to explore, why keep going back to Anakin?”
A Fan-Made Idea with Potential
While not yet a reality, Lord Vader (2025) clearly demonstrates the strong interest of fans in the psychological depth of Darth Vader — one of the most tragic and complex characters in modern cinema. In an era where the Star Wars franchise is expanding both in space and time, Lucasfilm could very well consider a similar project if the response from the community continues to be strong.
